The R&D work in the institute are in the field of Coastal Zone Development. This includes  research and development in: Bio- resources, Fishing technology, Sea food processing,  Aquaculture technology, Safety for waterborne transport, Coastal technology, Coastal Zone  Management, Oceanography, Numerical and physical modelling of waves, current and coastal  constructions and Maritime information technology. The Institute has 80 employees and is part  of the SINTEF group.
